It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood, actually it was two!

Over the last two Sundays we held two community events, and combined there were over 100 residents who attended. We saw people meeting old friends they haven’t seen for a while and many making new friends, but what stood out the most was the genuine sense of community.

The first was held in Lloyd Minor Park and was focused on families with young children. The day was filled with face painting, playing games, doing artwork, and children playing in the park. All while their parents were getting a chance to meet their neighbors and make connections with families with similar aged children. It was a beautiful afternoon and for more than two hours while children played and had their faces painted, parents got to connect with one another.

The second event was last Sunday and was held at Pine Shed BBQ. This event was open to everyone and provided a chance for residents to have some great food and meet with and ask questions of Leah, David and Joan.

There were certainly questions about the state of Rivergrove and whatever was important to the people who attended, but once again most of the afternoon was spent just enjoying one another’s company.

Events like these don’t just come together on their own so we are very thankful to everyone who attended and to those that helped make these community events happen, and especially Renee and Victor who were the driving force behind both events.

We believe that a strong community is the cornerstone of any great city, regardless of size. Where the people that live there are proud to be part of it and want to see it thrive. We also believe that its leaders need to be visible, hold each other accountable, and set the tone for the type of community that Rivergrove can be.

We are concerned citizens, but each with boundless hope for what Rivergrove can be when we all work together.
